postpartum

postpartum doula care:

Postpartum refers to the sacred time shared by parent and child after childbirth. In other cultures and older times, the sacred post-birth space was held by relatives, giving the new parent the opportunity to grow slowly into their new role while the infant adjusted to their new world. Special meals were prepared to replenish lost nutrients and support milk production, giving the new parent time away from their typical duties as well as protecting them from future illness, preserving their reproductive health and preparing their body for a healthy transition through menopause. Depending on the culture, this period lasts between 21 days and the first full year of the baby's life, with most prescriptions hovering around 40 days.
